Free PDF Merge & Split

Combine PDFs into one file, or split one PDF into individual pages. Everything happens locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

Add two or more PDFs. Drag list items to reorder is not supported yet — files merge in the order added.

Splits every page into its own downloadable PDF.

How this works: this page uses the open-source pdf-lib library, running entirely as JavaScript in your browser tab. Your PDF files are read locally and are never sent to any server.

      Troubleshooting

Merge or split fails with an error mentioning encryption or a password

This page can't open a password-protected PDF. Remove the password first (Preview on Mac can do this via File → Export, or use the command-line fallback below), then retry the merge or split.

The merged PDF is missing fillable form fields

Page content merges faithfully, but interactive AcroForm fields from the source PDFs can sometimes flatten or behave differently once combined. If your workflow depends on fillable fields surviving a merge, check the result carefully before relying on it.

      Prefer the command line?

      pdftk in1.pdf in2.pdf cat output merged.pdf # merge qpdf --split-pages in.pdf page_%d.pdf # split

pdftk and qpdf are both free, open-source PDF command-line tools available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
